The Gaza Strip, or simply Gaza, is a small self-governing Palestinian territory on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, that borders Egypt on the southwest for 11 kilometers and Israel on the east and north along a 51 km border. Currently, the Gaza Strip is administered by a “Unity Government” consisting of Hamas (a U.S. State Dept. designated terrorist organization) and the Palestinian Authority (formerly known as the ‘PLO’ or Palestinian Liberation Organization. The PLO was considered by the United States and Israel to be a terrorist organization until the Madrid Conference in 1991.)
